Founded in 1982 in solidarity with the Filipino people and their struggle for genuine democracy,
social justice and human rights in the Philippines. BCCHRP believes that the struggle of the
Filipino people for national liberation and social emancipation provides the framework for human
rights advocacy. Human right advocacy is integral to the struggles of peasants for land;
the workers for rational industrialization and decent living and working conditions; the women
against exploitation and discrimination; the poor for basic social services; and the youth for
access to education and other venues for growth and development. Through public information and
action campaigns, BCCHRP seeks to: support the struggle for human rights and the national
democratic aspirations of the Filipino masses; disseminate information and generate public
awareness about the political, economic and social situation in the Philippines and its parallel
implications in BC and Canada. This includes sponsoring speaking tours in Canada of representatives
of Filipino people's organizations and helping to facilitate exposure tours to the Philippines
for British Columbians. The Committee provides solidarity and support for the vital people's
movement in the Philippines. Join us in Solidarity and support the struggle of the Filipino people!

The youth branch of the New Democratic Party, the YND are a group of activist youth from all over BC. We are a mix of feminists, social democrats, lgbtq activists, trade unionists, environmentalists, anti-imperial/anti-racist activists, and members of the student movement. This past year we have worked on many campaigns, including awareness around genetically modified foods, the WTO, reproductive choice, housing, harm reduction and access of post-secondary education. Our mandate is to ensure a youth/activist voice in the NDP and the larger social justice movement. This coming year we will be working to make sure youth voices are heard in the provincial and federal elections.

BEST strives to make our communities healthier places to live by promoting
sustainable transportation, land-use planning and pedestrian, cycling, and
transit-oriented neighborhoods. Since 1996, BEST has run the annual Bike Week
and Commuter Challenge events. This year we expanded Bike Week to Bike Month.
We also run Go Green Choices, a regional trip reduction service for workplaces.
Our "offramp" program for secondary schools involves training students in
developing and setting up a trip reduction programs. The street reclaiming
project includes workshops and materials to assist Vancouver area neighborhoods
to 'take back' their streets through celebration, creativity and community based
traffic-calming measures. Our outreach activities include giving talks and
presentations; providing workshops; and hosting a list-serve on sustainable
transportation topics.
